Real Cost of Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Yatra 10 days 2026, 2027

Why Acclimatization Matters for Kailash Yatra Success?

Acclimization Strategy
Acclimization Strategy

It is estimated that 40 to 60 % of trekkers suffer from altitude sickness if they hurry toward Kailash. Your body needs hours to acclimate to thin air. We’ve built in buffer days and they remain important to account for the risk.

Day-by-Day Altitude Profile

Day 1: Kathmandu arrives at 1,400m, then drives to Kyirong at 2,800m. Easy first day.

Day 2: Rest day in Kyirong. Your body starts adapting to moderate altitude.

Day 3: Drive to Saga at 4,450m. Feel the change but still manageable.

Day 4: Long drive to Lake Mansarovar at 4,600m. Evening lake visit, overnight nearby.

Day 5: Short drive to Darchen at 4,650m. Full rest day for acclimatization.

Days 6-8: Kailash Kora trek. Day 6 to Dirapuk Monastery at 4,950m. Day 7 crosses Dolma La Pass at 5,630m (highest point). Day 8 descends to Zuthulphuk then back to Darchen.

Days 9-10: Return drive descending gradually to Kathmandu.

Science Behind Our Buffer Days

We also have 2 nights in Darchen before we set out on the Kora. This allows your body to make more red blood cells for oxygen. Pass up these buffers, and AMS risk spikes 40%. Upgrade to three nights in Darchen.

In the above chart blue line (our safe route) vs Red lines (rushed competitor routes ). Our buffer days are in yellow circles.

In the evening, we will arrive at our guesthouse. You can stroll through a small market, where you can see vendors selling hand-knotted wool, yak butter tea, dried meats, and prayer wheels. Overland Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 days ensures smooth border transitions.

In the evening, we will have a route health and altitude briefing. We'll have a warming dinner of local stew and tsampa, and you can sip yak butter tea if you like. We will follow our return with a briefing for the next long day, and sort out what to wear and drink. Today, we'll rise early for breakfast and an equipment check. The morning will be cold, with sunlight lighting up trails that pilgrims have walked for centuries.

We will trek up to Dira Puk and continue walking through high ridges and scree until we end up in a field. We will take this trek slowly, as the guide sets a lot of little rest stops to save energy and reduce the altitude's impact. Along the way, we'll pass many stones, small shrines, and groups of pilgrims walking barefoot or prostrating themselves. Overland Kailash Yatra Package from Nepal 10 Days supports steady pacing.

The terrain will open up to dramatic, gorgeous vistas: windswept ridges, distant glacial slopes, and, if the weather is clear, unparalleled views of the great range of Kailash to the west.

In the afternoon, we will arrive at Dira Puk to rest, eat, and see those crags that pilgrims believe to be sacred. Dira Puk is a good stopping place on the way up to the steep ascents of the Kora. There will be a small-group feel; experienced pilgrims will share stories around the fire. Dotted along the trail are small caves and shrines where previous pilgrims have rested and prayed. 10 Days Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Overland Journey crosses the sacred passes.

We will cross the highest pass by mid-morning. From there, we will gaze down on broad valleys and snag a close, reverent glimpse of the ancient volcano's stark face. Prayer flags will flutter in the wind, and the air will be thick with incense. We will take an extended break at the pass, eat a meal and let your lungs catch up. Local guides and porters provide you with the best information about what can be a steep descent ahead. You will encounter pilgrims from many traditions; you will feel their silent focus.

In the afternoon, we will continue down to Zuthul Puk. The trail will descend through rocky terrains and up among high meadows. We will come upon resting pilgrims, tiny shrines and stone cairns where travelers leave gifts. By the end of the afternoon, we will be at Zuthul Puk. This cave system will contain depth of spirituality and be a place to think upon. We will also return to the gruta and watch all these ritual objects, listening as a guide lets us in on legends pertaining to each of the locations. Overland Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 Days reaches spiritual peaks. In the evening, we will rest at our campsite near the cave.

When the Kora is completed, we will come back to Darchen and collect our baggage. We will load our belongings and then head down off the high plateau for our return drive toward Saga. The afternoon will be of long, open road and wide sky. On our way, we will pass through tiny settlements and prayer walls.

In the late afternoon, we drive on to Saga and check into our lodge. You'll have time to wash off, sleep and ponder the pilgrim experience. In the evening, we will have a debrief, where your guide will discuss significant cultural meanings of what you experienced and answer questions about local customs that exemplify these principles.

Max Altitude: 2700 Meals: Breakfast - Lunch- DinnerAccommodation: Guest House.

We'll wake up in the morning and get ready for a long but beautiful drive. We will leave after breakfast to follow some familiar roads that will contain the same perspective we've seen before, but through new eyes. The route will run through grazing lands and the monasteries that dot the occasional low ridge. 10-day Kailash Mansarovar Overland Tour returns with reflection.

We will photograph the wide sky, the thin lines of caravans, and faraway glacial tongues. We'll be over the lower passes by afternoon and will already be able to tell that the air is getting a little thicker.

Nearing Kyirung, we can expect the environment to turn into a mix of cultural bands where the effects from the Nepali and Tibetan cultures integrate freely. In the late afternoon, we will be in Kyirung. You'll have time to shop, return to your favorite spots of Day 1. In the evening, we will enjoy a final dinner with local cuisine and a brief cultural chat. You will rest well and prepare for the final stretch of the way back to Kathmandu. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 days from Nepal wraps up beautifully.

Max Altitude: 1350 Meals: Breakfast - LunchAccommodation: Guest House

Our last day of the Overland Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, 10 days, will start after breakfast. From here, we will depart towards Kathmandu, passing through small villages awash with early morning market activity.

The air will seem considerably warmer and more dense as we drive on. The landscape will transition from barren high plains to rolling foothills. We'll walk through trading towns where the goods of Nepal and Tibet will be exchanged in bustling markets. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, 10 days, ends with cherished memories.

Later in the day, we will descend the low ridges and end up back in Kathmandu Valley. We will drive in our vehicles to the city centre, passing through stupas and bustling bazaars as well as roadside shrines.

We'll have any last paperwork, and will assist with luggage transfer. On this, your last day of the trek, you will enjoy a local Newari or Nepali meal and begin to prepare for onward travel with memories of the mountain, its lake and all the people you have met along the way.

Essential Information

Choose Your Perfect Kailash Month For Darshan and Kora

Kailash Mansarovar yatra is available every month of the May to October calendar, but each time has its own weather, crowds, costs and spiritual vibes. Here's what to know before choosing dates.

May: Saga Dawa Festival Peak

May is the most intense spirituality. Thousands of pilgrims gather for the Saga Dawa Festival in honor of Buddha's life. You feel that Kailash Kora is surcharged with a strong religious feeling. But lodgings fill quickly, whereas prices spike by 30 percent, and long lines form at monasteries. This is best for spiritual seekers who are craving festival energy. 10 day Kailash Mansarovar Overland Tour captures this peak.

June: Best Weather Window

In June, the sky is the clearest, and the days are the warmest. The snow is all gone, so the mountain views are bright. Fewer pilgrims mean a more tranquil Kora and shorter lines at Mansarovar Lake. Temperatures stay comfortable for trekking. Perfect for both photographers and amateur hikers. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 days From Nepal shines in clear skies.

July-August: Reliable Summer Season

The weather is becoming more settled, though an afternoon shower is still possible. The meadows around Mansarovar look beautiful in their lush green. There are enough pilgrims to keep you from feeling lonely, yet not so many that they disturb your privacy. Lodging and food options are increasing, and standard prices apply. It's a great time to visit for families and travelers with mixed fitness levels. Overland Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 days offers balanced crowds.

September

Pilgrim numbers drop sharply. You get solitude on the 3-day Kora. The sky remains largely clear, but early snow can be seen on Dolma La Pass. Nights turn colder. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 days provides peaceful walks.

October: Final Good Window

Last month, before the winter closure. Cool air, golden scenery, fewer clouds for pictures. Lack of crowds makes for an intimate experience. Nights are below freezing, so bring warm clothing. Lodges start closing mid-month. Most affordable prices, but there can be unpredictability in the weather. Overland to Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar ends the season beautifully.

Accommodations

The Kailash route is not a place well known for luxury vacations. So, there aren't a lot of luxury accommodations en route. But in the towns like Gyirong, etc., we have selected some better choices for sleeping. Accommodation options in rural areas such as Mansarovar, Darchen, Dirapuk and Zuthulpuk are typically less luxurious.

At night, you'll stay in local guest houses that have simple furniture and are supplied with mattresses, cushions and blankets. The rooms are shared so that you can share a room with other people. Ten Days Kailash and Mansarovar Yatra Overland includes cozy stays.

If you don't want to share a room, we are happy to provide a Single Room or upgrade your hotel services (with extra cost) if you can give us enough time. But Gyirong, Saga and Darchen are the three places where upgrade is only offered.

Meals

Food is well planned and taken care of during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to keep you energetic and sound. In the bigger cities such as Gyirong and Saga, you'll find a range of Chinese and Tibetan dishes served in local restaurants. Such dishes consist of fresh vegetables, rice, noodles and meat, which are delicious and fulfilling.

By the time you have reached remote places, passing around Lake Mansarovar and Kailash, eating becomes easier but simpler. Our guides cook up hearty meals with local specialities such as momos (dumplings), thukpa (noodle soup) and tsampa (roasted barley flour), designed to fuel you at high altitudes.

Breakfasts typically include: bread, butter, eggs and tea. We make sure all of your meals have plenty of calories and nutrition to cope with the physical demands of the trek. The 10 Days Overland Kailash Mansarovar Tour fuels your journey.

If you have special diet needs, such as vegetarian, vegan or religious, please let us know in advance. We will try to meet the needs during the trip.

What Indians/ NRIs Need for Kailash?

Indians and NRIs doing Kailash from Nepal will be travelling on a Chinese Group Visa, not a regular single China visa. In addition to these, a Tibet Travel Permit is necessary for entering Tibet, and additional permits, such as the Military or Restricted Area Permit, are required to visit the Ngari region, including Mount Kailash. Kailash Mansarovar Overland Trip – 10 Days from Nepal handles all paperwork.

Three Crucial Permits Explained Simpler

Chinese Group Visa

It's a collective one issued by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, according to a name list submitted by your travel agency, which voids any previous China visa when you enter Tibet from Nepal. Your agency delivers your passport with photos and a form, keeping a copy of the latter; processing time is normally 4–5 working days before you leave.

Tibet Travel Permit

This is the permit that allows your entry into Tibet, which can only be obtained by a licensed travel agency from the Tibet Tourism Bureau, using scanned pages of your passport and a valid itinerary. You can't apply for it on your own, and agencies are generally required 10 to14 days to complete the approval process before you take off on your tour. Mount Kailash Mansarovar Overland Journey 10 Days includes this seamlessly.

Military and Other Regional Permits

As Kailash is located in a border-sensitive area, Indian pilgrims who plan to travel to Ngari should have further documents, like a Military Permit and other restricted-area permits. Your operator includes these in the same bundle as your Tibet Travel Permit, but for you, they are not extra steps; they do require additional processing time.

Simple Timeline for Indians

Confirm your tour in advance (at least 30 days) before travel, so the agency can get Tibet permits from Lhasa and then arrange a Chinese Group Visa while entering Kathmandu. Be in Kathmandu at least 5 clear working days before your planned arrival in Tibet, as the Chinese embassy will need to keep your passport during the group visa process. Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrimage Overland 10 Days follows this timeline.

What Documents are Needed for Indians vs Foreigners in 2026/27?

  • Indians/NRIs: Chinese Group Visa (Kathmandu embassy, original passport with photo, 5 days), Tibet Travel Permit – (operator takes care), Military Permit –(operator takes care). BMI below 25, a medical certificate is necessary. Book 30 days minimum.
  • Foreigners: Can be issued a Chinese tourist visa, Tibet Travel Permit (provided) and Military Permit(provided). Standard medical fitness proof. Simple process, 20 days' notice should be enough.
  • Tibet/Military permits are taken care of after we have the confirmation of the visa: Upload a passport scan plus a copy of the visa. Kathmandu office assists with Group Visa. 10 Days Overland Tour to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar is simplified for all.

Medical Clearance and Insurance for Kailash Safety

Trekking at high altitudes requires trekkers to prove their fitness. Chinese authorities insist on a medical certificate from an accredited doctor stating that you are fit to deal with the 5,630m elevation and days of exertion. We include a pre-filled checklist which you can take to your doctor to fill out heart, lungs, blood pressure and altitude tolerance. Download and get signed, then return it with your booking.

There's no international insurance that works inside Tibet because of the Chinese government restrictions. Your coverage is valid for Nepal only, Kathmandu, Kyirong border and return. Overland Kailash Yatra Package from Nepal – 10 Days ensures safety checks.

Getting Kailash Pilgrimage Ready with an 8 Week Training Plan

Most of these guides say to consult your doctor and leave it at that. We give you an entire 8-week plan to build strength for Kailash Kora's 18km route, Dolma La Pass (5,630m) and high-altitude days.

Week 1-2: Build Your Base (Cardio Foundation)

30 minutes of brisk walking every day. Add 5-minute warm-up stretches. Focus: Heart health for altitude. Goal: Walk 5km without stopping. Mansarovar and Kailash Overland Tour 10 Days starts with strong fitness.

Weeks 3-4: Stair Power (Vertical Training)

Use building or stadium stairs 20-30 minutes daily. Carry a 3-5kg backpack. Goal: Simulate Dolma La ascent. Rest if your knees hurt.

Week 5-6: Long Distance (Endurance Hikes)

3-4 hour hikes on weekends with 7-10kg backpacks. Daily: 45 minutes fast walking. Objective: Develop strength for Day 7 (6-7 hour trek).

Week 7-8: Altitude Simulation (Peak Prep)

Every day: 1 hour treadmill (10 incline) plus stair intervals. Weekend: 5-6-hour hill hike with a 10-12kg pack. Train with deep breathing for thin air. 10 Days Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Overland Journey rewards preparation.

Kailash Parikrama Sacred Rules You Must Follow

Kailash Parikrama has immense religious significance among its various pilgrims following Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon. Following protocols is respectful to the mountain and avoids offending locals.

Route: only clockwise (52km Kora)

  • For Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims: Go clockwise. Anti-clockwise is an offense to the Holy Mountain and all deities on Kailash.
  • Jain believers: Go clockwise only. Please cooperate with the guide, thus ensuring that groups remain unmixed. Overland Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 Days respects traditions.

Flags: Proper Hanging Method

New flags should be hung from left to right in a clockwise direction. Old flags go into the water (Mansarovar, if possible). Do not let your feet tread on any flags. The right hand only takes them down. Put up this way, and more merit will be garnered.

Dolma La Pass Protocol (5,630m)

When at the pass, leave offerings in rock cairns as a symbolic expression: your own hair, nails and any old clothes. Spin prayer wheels in the direction indicated for merit three times. Recite your own mantras 108 times. It is forbidden to eat or drink at any point in the vicinity of the pass. Bow 3 times before descending. Kailash Mansarovar Spiritual Overland Tour – 10 Days guides these rituals.

Prostration Rules

Full prostration: hands, knees, and head simultaneously touch the ground. Use a prostration board if available. Do not prostrate near places where people eat or toilets. Women should cover their heads when prostrating.

Monastery Photography Rules

  • Dirapuk Monastery: No photographs are allowed inside the prayer hall. Permission should be obtained for portraits of the monks.
  • Zuthulpuk Monastery: No flash photography should be used, and no tripods are allowed in the cave.
  • In general: Do not point the camera at stupas. If monks object, delete your photographs.

As Seen During Kora: Daily Practices

Day 6 (Dirapuk): At sunset, many pilgrims meditate to gaze on the west face of Kailash.

Day 7 (Dolma La): Respectful behaviour and silence are proposed around shrines,

Day 8 (End): End of your spiritual travel, do some final prayers and reflection at Darchen.

Yes, you must have three main permits: the Chinese Group Visa, Tibet Travel Permit and Alien's Permit. The Group Visa typically takes 3 to 5 days and costs 150-200 USD. The Tibet Travel Permit is in the package, and the processing time is around 7-14 days. Alien's Permit can be arranged automatically or by the tour operator. Overall, the process takes between 10 to 21 days or so – depending on how quickly you get in there, always a good idea to book the tickets a month ahead though. Our team takes care of everything, including collecting your passport scan, applying for your visa in Kathmandu and picking it up at the border.

We have a well-honed three-step acclimatization strategy with an 87 percent success rate. This involves slow adding heights from 1,800 to 4,600 meters, consuming a lot of liquid with 4 liters or five liters of fluids a day, and eating garlic soup and Diamox according to need. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar prioritizes health. We offer 24/7 on-call medical care, sat phone communication and evacuation support as needed.

Women can trek comfortably, even while menstruating, with adequate preparation and equipment. The 10 Days Overland Kailash Mansarovar Tour ensures women's safety.

The actual trek takes 3 days and is usually done on the itinerary from day 6 to day 8. Day 6 is a relatively easy, roughly 13-kilometer hike. Day 7 is the hardest, an 18-kilometer route with a 880-meter elevation gain to nearly 5,630 meters. Day 8 is a downhill walk of 12 kilometers. It is doable but intense for beginners, and comfortable terrain for experienced trekkers. When the route is taken with good acclimatization, nearly 95% of those who attempt it complete the Kora successfully. Kailash Mansarovar Overland Trip 10 Days from Nepal manages difficulty levels.

Our careful acclimatization also minimizes altitude sickness during the first five days. If we see symptoms, our medical team tracks and treats them right away.
