Dream Tibet Travel presents an overwhelming adventure on the hidden areas of Kharta Valley located East of Tibet behind the massive bulk of Makalu and Everest peaks that borders North East of Nepal.
Truly a wonderful journey around world’s highest plateau of Tibet where you can observe old culture and tradition of rural Tibetan farm villages and towns as it was for hundreds of centuries back.
Our adventure begins from Kathmandu with familiarization sightseeing tour of great interest as Kathmandu valley is stepped with past histories and full of World Heritage Sites, after a pleasant time in Kathmandu a sweeping scenic flight takes you to land at Gongar airport near Lhasa in Tibet.

After a wonderful tour of Lhasa with acclimatization days visiting its famous religious and cultural monasteries which includes Drepung-Sera-Jorkhang and magnificent Potala Palace with colorful market of Barkhor Square, our tour includes past Lhasa to Ganden monastery.

From Lhasa our true adventure starts with overland drive towards south east of Tibet as the journey leads over Khamba-la and Karo-la pass of above 5,000 m with beautiful turquoise lake Yamdrok Tso to reach at Tibet’s 2nd biggest city at Shigatse with fabulous Tashilumpo monastery, after an interesting tour of the huge monastery our journey continues towards rural farm areas on huge Tibetan plateau and its dramatic landscapes.

At Kharta preparation and trekking towards high hills and mountains using Yaks and horses and mules to carry our camping gear and baggage where our Nepalese crew will facilities and serve you with excellent meals on camping. Trek leads past several meadows and icy lakes to reach the highest point at Langma La 5,320 m pass with spectacular views of Mt. Makalu and Everest North East Face.
After a great trekking of tough walks on high altitude our journey heads back towards Kharta town for the drive back to Kathmandu on good scenic road of Lhasa-Kathmandu also known as Friendship Highway.
Drive leads past Old Tingri with views of Mt. Everest and Cho-Oyu and over Lalung-La pass with incredible views of mountains that border Nepal and Tibet and finally ending our Tibet journey at Kerong/ Gyarong with a drive to Kathmandu after a mesmerizing adventure on Kharta Valley Trekking.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu 1,300m via respective airlines.

Day 02: A day in Kathmandu with half day sightseeing tour at places of interest.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Gongar international airport and drive to Lhasa 3,660 m.

Day 04: In Lhasa with guided tour in Lhasa at places of interest.

Day 05: Drive to Ganden 3,830 m with tour of Ganden Monastery return back to Lhasa.

Day 06: Drive to Shigatse 3,856m -06 hrs.

Day 07: Drive to Shegar 4,350m - 05 hrs.

Day 08: Drive to Kharta 3,700m - 06 hrs.

Day 09: Trek to Yuerba 3,900m- 05 hrs.

Day 10: Trek to Lhatse 4,890m - 05 hrs.

On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport where you will be received by Dream Tibet guide and staff with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotel in the hub of the city, with time for talks and briefing regarding your stay in Nepal and of Kharta Valley trekking with full information of the trip.

In Kathmandu free day, where you can join in our half day tour around Kathmandu at places of great interest, as Kathmandu valley steeped with history and culture with most of the world heritage sites of Pashupatinath a Hindu temple, Bouddhanath Stupa Buddhist sites also known as ‘Little Tibet’ or tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square of old palace courtyard and a temple resident of Kumari (Living Goddess).
Visit Swayambhunath Stupa of more than 2,500 years old also popularly called ‘Monkey Temple’ with free afternoon preparation for Tibet trip and Kharta Valley trekking.

Morning as per the flight to Lhasa transfer to Kathmandu international airport, during an hour airborne mind-blowing views of world’s highest mountains with Mount Everest at its closest, this super flight touches down at Gongar Airport which is just an hour drive to Lhasa city. At Gongor airport well received by our Tibetan guide and drivers for pleasant drive into heart of Lhasa city. Afternoon relax at this high altitude of 3,650 m and take a short walk around Barkhor market square where hotels are located.

A day day in Lhasa engrossed with interesting tour of Drefung Monastery one of the largest in Tibet, as well important old monastery of Tibet actually a collage and a university for Tibetan Buddhism in earlier days.
After Drefung, tour of Jorkhang Temple which is another important and interesting site to visit as it boasts historic importance and tales of old days. The tour concludes for the day visiting Bharkor Bazaar.
Next tour of famous and magnificent Potala Palace, originally built during 640 AD. Potala Palace the landmark of Lhasa and Tibet dominates the Kyuchi or Lhasa valley.
The 13 storied palaces with 1,000 room stands at 117.19m high include 1000 rooms. Afternoon tour of another interesting and important Shera monastery and watch young monks in debates one of the high light of the visit.

Today one of the best way to see Tibetan country landscapes and rural life of villagers with chance to watch Yak grazing on wide open pastureland. Morning a nice drive to Ganden Monastery area, a distance of 45 k.m. towards east of Lhasa, on leaving the main road heading uphill as Ganden monastery located 18 k.m from main highway, on reaching the top sacred ridge of Wangku Ri at Ganden area.
Ganden a foremost monastery of Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism (Yellow Hat),
all Great Six monasteries (Ganden, Sera, Drepung,Tashilumpo, Labrang, Kumbum) are of Yellow Sects, none suffered as disastrously as Ganden during Cultural Revolution when artillery and vast quantities of dynamite where deployed, at present built into its original form after much destruction.
In early time over 2,000 monks lived here; now there are hardly 300 monks, after a nice moment at Ganden drive back to Lhasa.

This is about six hour’s scenic drive, and when in Shigatse we visit the very large complex of Tashilumpo monastery. This is the traditional residence of the Panchen Lama and contains a 27m high gold plated Buddha known as Matria (the future Buddha). The hotel in Shigtase is quite large and comfortable.

After a wonderful time at Shigatse, our drive continues to Shegar, crossing two high passes, one at 4,500m and 5,200m. Arriving at Hotel in Shegar or Xegar it is the only one in Shegar and in fact the only hotel within a 200 km radius.

A very scenic drive through the great high pass of Pang-la 5,200m offering one of the worlds most panoramic views of the central / eastern high Himalayan range of mountains and then reaching our point of Trekking at Kharta.

Our adventure begins from Kharta, heading westwards, following the Kharta Chu, a tributary of the great Arun River which flows towards Nepal, the route passes a number of small settlement and Yak dwellers and leading between terraces beside the river near to the village of Yeurba for the first overnight camp in the wilderness.

Kangshung face crosses the Langma 5,320 meter today, passing through villages; our path follows the ridge, through scrubby juniper and rhododendron, and finally coming to a rocky gorge, to emerge at the flat grassy area known as Lhatse for the overnight camp.

From this wonderful campsite today walk lead to the high pass of Langma of over 5,320m.
The walk leads to a steep winding path on the grassy slopes hill for over two hour till Langma is reached where you can hear the string of prayer flags fluttering on the wind. This top offers grand views of Makalu and as far as to Everest and other surrounding peaks, after a great moment here trek down towards the campsite on the grassy meadow near the drokpa or nomads camps.

The path leads on the gradual winding path most of the way with marvelous scenery of the landscapes and snow capped high mountains most of the way till Drogpa is reached for the overnight stop. Here depending upon the season meet the Shepard’s / nomads camp in Tibetan is known as Drogpa or Drokpa.c

From Drogpa the walk leads to Pethanf Ringmo heading down the valley from the cave to a long narrow trail 300m from the bottom of the Karma Valley, after crossing the Karma Valley, the path leads to Karma chu to Pethang.

Rest day with time to marvel the surrounding beauty and its landscapes with short hike and explore the unexplored area of this hidden areas of Kharte valley.

The walk leads to the high top walking slowly on this beautiful path overlooking grand views of the surrounding high peaks and beautiful landscapes of the valleys and high hills.

The walk gets easier as our trip ends to lower region on this Kharta valley passing through several yak pastures and nomads till Parthang is reached for the overnight stop.

Our walk leads to the long valley most of the way overlooking giant peaks on this summer pasture fields carpets of small beautiful flowers can be seen along the trail.

From Sharlung our route heads back towards Yuerba as the walk approaches to lower region of the valley and passing through several farm villages and agriculture lands till Sharo is reached for the overnight stop.

Retrace the journey back to Yuerba with beautiful views of snow capped peaks and following the trail of earlier camps within Yak herders and Drokpa (nomads) camps.

Our final and last day walk of this marvelous Kharta Valley treks ends today with pleasant walk downhill most of the way to Kharata town and village.

After a wonderful time at Kharta region today we head towards Everest region with a drive of 4-5 hrs to Phadrunchi for the overnight stop, just outside this small village.

After a great time around Kharta Valley Trekking today with last overnight stop in Tibet, as our morning drive leads to join the main Lhasa-Kathmandu (Friendship Highway) highway at Old Tingri, from Tingri views of Mt. Everest and Cho-Oyu peaks, and then continue drive for another three hours to reach at Kyirung town with views of Mt. Shisapangma, Dorji Lakpa, Gaurishanker and Langtang mountain range. On reaching Kyirung overnight camp just before or after Kyirung or check into the local guest house / lodge, Kyirung a small growing town.

Drive leads back to the lush green vegetation and tree lines on the winding downhill road on reaching Kerong / Rasuwagadi a border town, going through the immigration and custom formalities at Rasuwgadi, continue a short drive to the Friendship Bridge. From here a few minute walk leads to the Nepal Border at Timure. Here again with the Immigration formalities 5 hours of good scenic drive brings you back at Kathmandu.

A free day today for individual activities, for interested people can join in for another interesting tour around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur rest of the day free for shopping souvenirs.
